INSURANCE
By tradition Finnish cargo underwriters apply Finnish insurance conditions to domestic transport of goods and to import and export of goods to the Scandinavian countries. Export of goods to countries outside of Scandinavia is usually insured subject to the English Institute Cargo Clauses. However, the Institute Cargo Clauses are today gaining ground also with regards to the transport of goods traditionally insured under Finnish Conditions.
Liability insurance is grated by Finnish insurance companies to freight forwarders and road carriers while P&I insurance to Finnish shipowners is generally granted by foreign P&I underwriters, although some Finnish insurance companies may grant partial P&I coverage.
Hull and machinery coverage is granted by Finnish insurance companies subject to the Finnish Hull Insurance Conditions 2001 (FHC 2001).
